Magic in the Mundane

What will my next story be? When and where will the spark of inspiration that ignites the magic of storytelling? These are often the uncertainties of a storyteller — so we go hunting for answers. They can come from books or films, in conversations of ‘what if’s’ or perhaps a meandering scribble that made its way into a notebook. However, the most interesting place to find such magic is in the mundane.

Magic is all around us — you just have to tune your eyes to see it. When you actively search for the extraordinary you may find a new world to be explored, a character with a mysterious past or a secret to be uncovered.

Everyone and everything has a story. I find fun in creating that story for myself. It started at an early age giving magical stories to seemingly mundane people as they passed by. There is a playfulness in this outlook. Hollow trees are now portals to new worlds, train station walls hide new platforms and forest groves are home to many hidden creatures. Magic in the mundane is how many of our favourite stories come to life.

If you are attuned to seeing through this lens your world becomes magical. It can cast positive light over your surroundings and you see beauty in every direction. Your creativity gives life to these stories that didn’t exist until you began to dream. The magic starts with you and your imagination.
